Barcelona finally ended their winless drought against Elche and while the win was a pleasant change and the Catalans even dominated the game through and through, the same problems at the back almost denied another win. The youngsters continue to steal the show while the experienced defenders at the back are failing to hold things together. A slim win for Barca but a win nonetheless, that will definitely help them boost up their confidence for the second half of the season. The Catalans then played against Sevilla last week, in what was a blockbuster game and according to Xavi Hernandez, a learning lesson too.
It is no secret that Barcelona was one of the most mismanaged clubs in the entirety of Europe. The former kings of the world were absolutely dragged to a new low by their former president and board. Impulse decisions and a lack of informed transfers made the club lose a tremendous amount of money and the Covid pandemic was the final nail in the coffin for the club.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez on Sevilla’s recent success
Now that the club is trying to build itself up from the ground, Xavi says that they should look at Sevilla’s growth plan as an inspiration. He said in a press conference,
"“We tend to look abroad to clubs like Bayern Munich, but what Sevilla have done in recent years makes them an example for us.”“Beating Sevilla would be a huge boost, but it will be tough because they’re a great team and they are in good form.”Source ESPN"
He went on to praise the former Real Madrid manager and then he also complimented Sevilla’s scouting department. The Los Nervionenses are sitting in second place while the Blaugrana are ten points behind them in the seventh position.
While the youngsters of Catalunya have really started to show their color, Xavi plans to bring experienced reinforcements in January to bolster the squad.
