Barcelona has been flirting with the idea of bringing in a new left-back for quite a few years now. They first tried to deploy their own youngsters in the position however, the likes of Junior Firpo were just not good enough and Jordi Alba was brought back to the team in no time. The Barca legend who is now close to 35 years old, is still their main left-back and no one seems to have what it takes to replace him. Alba however, is getting old and it is time for the Catalans to bring in someone who will replace him for good and Valencia captain, Jose Gaya, might just be the one to do so.

Gaya has been linked with the Catalan side for a couple of years now and every time he is mentioned alongside Barca, fans think that this time he will join the club for sure, however, it just did not happen and the player remained at Valencia although everyone thought that he would leave the club. Joining Barca would certainly take the 26-year-old player’s career to the next level since he is one of the best players in his position however, his brilliance won’t be noticed until he plays for one of the big clubs in Europe.

Barcelona should go all-in for Jose Gaya

Barca is set to go for the player once again since Alba has not been impactful this season and he can no longer keep up with the speedy youngsters, however, what is going to be different this time? Well, this time Gaya is running out of a contract and by 2023 he will be a free agent. This will be the last year where Valencia could get some money out of the player and thus, they might be willing to sell him and negotiate with Barca more than they did in the past. Having said that, the only way the Catalans could secure the skipper is if Gaya himself shows a desire to leave, but unfortunately, all signs indicate that the defender wants to continue his stay at the Mestalla Stadium.

While his renewal is circumstantial, securing Gaya would not only solve the left-back issue, but Barca would also not have to worry about that position for quite a few years since youngster Alejandro Balde is also showing some great potential.
