Joan Laporta has already impressed fans after securing Dani Alves, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore on a free transfer in January, with both Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay also arriving in a similar fashion last summer. While the Barcelona president is now ready to spend big in order to sign players like Erling Haaland, he continues to closely monitor the free agency option.

While many of the ongoing rumors have linked the Catalans with Chelsea‘s departing defenders Andreas Christensen and César Azpilicueta, Barca are also looking to sign Sergio Busquets’ successor for free. Sport has now reported that AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie has decided to not renew with the Serie A giants in order to make a move to Camp Nou. Franck joined the Italian side in 2019 and has since scored 34 goals in163 league appearances.

Barcelona near the signing of AC Milan’s Franck Kessie

Despite being offered 5 million euros per season by the Italian side, the Ivorian international is keen on joining Barcelona and has already begun negotiations months ago. It is believed that the 25-year-old is close to reaching an agreement and will soon join Barca on a free transfer.

ESPN report that both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring the situation with Tottenham Hotspur also reportedly planning to offer the midfielder a lucrative contract.

Kessie could be the perfect candidate to potentially replace an aging Sergio Busquets at the Nou Camp, allowing Frenkie de Jong to play in a more attacking position. It remains to be seen how the negotiations progress but reports claim agreement between the two sides is near.
