Barcelona: Jose Gaya gives update about his career at Valencia
One of the positions that Barcelona must find new signings for next season is the full-back position. The Catalans are currently running the duo of Dani Alves and Jordi Alba however, the duo is extremely aged and can no longer be the consistent pair that they used to be. They were once considered the best fullbacks in the world however at the age of 38 and 32 respectively, they can no longer keep up with the pacey attackers and Barcelona have identified a few targets to replace them. While Noussair Mazraoui has been selected to replace Dani Alves, there are a few more targets for replacing Alba.
Most recently the club was linked with Chelsea captain and legend Cesar Azpilicueta however, the same problem arises by signing him, his age. The Catalans need a more permanent solution and a short-term solution is not necessarily the right answer at the moment. They have been going for have been linked with for a long time is Jose Gaya. The Valencia captain has been linked with Barca for a few seasons now, and it has been rumored that he does not wish to extend his contract with his current club. Having said that, he said this is a recent interview,
"“This isn’t the time to talk about my future, I love these fans, Valencia is my club. It always will be and they’re in my heart.”Source Mundo Deportivo"
This shows us that he still ambiguous about his career choice and might end up staying back at his current club. However, in order to to be recognized as one of the best players in the world he needs to play at one of the most elite clubs in the world and Barcelona is giving him the opportunity. He certainly has the potential to be one of the best and he has played in La Liga for the entirety of his professional career. If he does choose to move on from the club would be his best choice in the club will accept him with open arms. The player’s contract expires in 2023 and if Valencia are not willing to sell him at a reasonable price, Barca will wait till he becomes a free agent.
Should Barca push to sign Jose Gaya?
