Steven Gerrard commends Barcelona for choosing Xavi as their new manager
The Spaniard took over the club after Ronald Koeman was sacked earlier this season. The Dutch manager took over the club during a tough time and he did a lot to help Barca win a Copa del Rey even in one of their most difficult seasons. However, in the following season, after the exit of Lionel Messi, Koeman’s team fell out pretty quickly. Xavi was brought in to rebuild the team and according to Gerrard that was the best decision. He said in the post-match interview,
"“I think the appointment of Xavi was a masterstroke by Barcelona to appoint someone who has Barcelona in his DNA and who was a world-class player for so many years,”“He obviously knows the style that everyone around Barcelona wants to see. After some challenging times it looks like as if they are getting back to where they need to be._Source Twitter"
He went on to congratulate Xavi on his 4-0 victory over Real Madrid. A victory like that is historical, it takes a lot to beat one of the best teams in the world in that manner and Xavi managed to do that in under 200 days. He has a lot more to offer to the club and we will have to wait and see what the Xavi era holds in store for us.
