Barcelona celebrated their season-defining win over Real Madrid in some style. With a comeback win courtesy of a late Franck Kessié goal, Xavi’s men are now 12 points ahead of second-place Madrid. The lead of this magnitude is unlikely to be overturned, and the reactions of the home side pointed toward the same confidence.

The party in the jubilant dressing room included all Barcelona players and staff and even one former star – Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The 33-year-old was delighted with his former side’s crucial El Clasico triumph.

However, the mood isn’t as good at his current club. Chelsea continue to struggle in the Premier League despite spending big in January and their European challenge also got a lot harder after being drawn against defending Champions Real Madrid.

Chelsea’s January splurge also pushed Aubameyang further down the pecking order under Graham Potter. The former Arsenal forward enjoyed a very prolific spell at Barcelona and the scenes in dressing room showed he’s still appreciated by his teammates.

Things have gone downhill since he departed the Catalan outfit. After Barca’s 2-1 win, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the experienced striker is ‘almost out’ of the Chelsea project. He also added that Aubameyang still has an excellent relationship with Barcelona players, the board and Xavi.

He wanted to return to Catalunya in the winter window but the move couldn’t materialize due to FIFA rules. With the Blaugrana interested in bringing back Lionel Messi at the end of the season, it’s tough to see them move for Aubameyang again.

Aubameyang wasn’t the only familiar face at Camp Nou on Sunday. Former captain and coach Pep Guardiola was also in attendance, as he witnessed Xavi become the first Barcelona manager to win three Clásicos in one year since 2011.
