Barcelona is still searching the market for prospective reinforcements to add to their squad during the summer transfer window despite being subject to a transfer restriction.

Recently, President Joan Laporta disclosed his summer transfer goals, prioritizing the acquisition of a new right-back, striker, and centre-back. Nevertheless, the Catalan giants must first generate £178 million to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play requirements before adding any new players. To do this, they must either sell some players or lower their wage budget.

To achieve this criterion, a number of players have recently been connected with exits, with overcrowded midfield potential being the focus. Manager Xavi Hernandez has indicated a preference for using a 4-man midfield with Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Sergio Busquets and Gavi.

The injury to Pedri allowed Franck Kessie to showcase his talent in an amazing performance against Real Madrid, scoring the winning goal. However, his future remains uncertain and could potentially leave Camp Nou this summer. Plus captain Busquets hasn’t finalized his decision regarding his expiring contract and with links to MLS, the 34-year-old could also be on his way out. This has prompted Xavi to explore the market for midfield reinforcements.

Florian Wirtz talks about Barcelona interest

Earlier this week, Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz was heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou with Sport reporting Xavi had already contacted the 19-year-old’s father.

The youngster has now responded to these rumours by stating,

"“I have not spoken with my father about this, regarding Barcelona transfer — I was a bit confused by the links as well”“I just read about it, I want to focus on Leverkusen and be successful. I’m not looking into the future now”.Source Fabrizio Romano"
