Barcelona are currently facing a major financial problem with La Liga stating that the Catalan giants need to reduce their wage bill by a little over €200m before making any new signings this summer. Not only that but existing youth player Gavi will also not be registered into the first team with better contracts until the Spanish side meets the Financial Fair Play requirements set by the league.

The salary limit needs to be met without using another lever and thus the La Liga giants will need to look to reduce the salaries of current players with massive salaries like Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, while also considering the possibility of selling a few.

President Joan Laporta not only wanted to bring reinforcements in the summer but also wanted to register current players with new contracts like in the case of Gavi, Marcos Alonso, Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde and Sergi Roberto. Meanwhile, soon-to-be free agent Sergio Busquets is also yet to be offered a new contract.

Barcelona consider terminating captain Jordi Alba

With Barca needing to reduce their wage bill by €200m, SPORT have reported that veteran Jordi Alba could be on his way out of Camp Nou after agreeing to a mutual termination of his contract this summer. The left-back has moved to a more substitute role this season with the prominence of youngster Balde who has made 33 appearances for the Catalan side this season, 11 more matches than Alba at 22 games.

The 34-year-old has a contract that expires in June, 2024 but with a net salary of €38 million for next season, the Catalans might want to sell one of the highest-earners in European football. It remains to be seen whether any offers arrive for the possible sale of the full-back but a termination of his contract could likely become a reality.
