Aymeric Laporte has expressed his desire to leave Manchester City this summer after seeing a significant drop in his playing time with the team this season. As a result, the English club is already looking for a new central defender to strengthen its defence, and Laporte is reportedly eyeing a move to Barcelona despite interest from other teams such as AC Milan, Juventus, and Newcastle United.

However, Laporte’s potential arrival at Barcelona is complicated by the fact that the Catalan club already has several central defenders, including Ronald Araujo, Joules Koundé, Andreas Christensen, Eric García, Marcos Alonso and possibly even Iñigo Martínez, who is expected to arrive on a free transfer this summer. Laporte knows that his signing for Barcelona is conditioned by the departure of one of these players, and it does not seem that the club is willing to let any of them go at the moment.

Athletic Club is also said to be interested in bringing Laporte back to his former club, but the high salary of around €6.5 million could make it difficult for them to secure his services. Laporte’s contract with Manchester City runs until June 30, 2025, so any team looking to sign him will have to negotiate with the English club.

Despite Laporte’s struggles to impress this season, he remains a highly sought-after player, and it is no surprise that several top clubs are interested in him. It remains to be seen where he will end up next season, but it is clear that his desire to leave the Manchester Giants will make him one of the most talked-about players in the transfer market this summer.

Regardless of his desire to join Barca, the Catalan side must first fix their wage bill before securing any new talents, which further complicates the situation.
