Real Madrid legend Guti has advised Lionel Messi against returning to Barcelona, warning that the Catalan club will not win the Champions League with or without him. Despite the current standing of Barcelona at the top of the Liga table, the club is still a work in progress, according to Guti, and he feels that it is too big a challenge for Messi to return to the club where he has already achieved everything.

"“If I were Messi, I wouldn’t go back to Barcelona. He already achieved everything there. It’s too big of a challenge at this moment. Now, with or without him, Barca won’t win the Champions League.” Guti told El Chiringuito"

Messi is currently in the last few months of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, and there are rumours of him making a second stint with Barcelona. However, Guti believes that it would be a big risk for the all-time great to return to a side that is still developing. This doesn’t come as a shock as it is evident that Guti does not want to see deals done that allow Barcelona’s Clasico rivals to become stronger as a collective.

Messi has reportedly expressed a desire to win the Champions League for a fifth time, and he was hoping to achieve this with PSG. However, despite the presence of star players such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and many more, the Ligue 1 Giants failed to deliver the desired result.

Guti’s advice to Messi comes amidst rumours of a potential offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, who are said to be preparing a bumper offer for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner with MLS also a viable option for the Argentine. However, it remains to be seen where Messi will end up next season.
