Oriol Romeu – Central Midfielder

This may be a strange one considering the defensive midfielder has only just joined the Catalan giants from Girona, but I think this pre-season is key for him.

Romeu may be popular due to his history with the team, but not everyone is convinced that the former Southampton midfielder is of the quality required to play in a side who have Champions League trophy aspirations.

A quick start this pre-season would quieten some of the dissenting voices, he’s not a marquee name but his playstyle is exactly what Xavi was looking for.

If Romeu can show the qualities that made him attractive to Xavi with solid performances through the pre-season then we can all breath a sigh of relief.

He’ll certainly be challenged considering Barca will play a host of European powerhouses in Juventus, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Romeu’s role will be to break up play and pass the ball off to the more creative midfielders like Gundogan and de Jong.
