FC Barcelona identify their priority transfer target for 2024
The 2023 summer transfer window closed less than a month ago, but according to some reports, FC Barcelona have already identified their number one transfer target for 2024.
The financial situation is still precarious at Barcelona, despite Joan Laporta making strides to reduce the wage bill and generate new revenue streams to help balance financial fair play.
Despite this, Barca still finds themselves suffocating under a mountain of debt. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but there’s still a long way to go.
This means that Barca has to work intelligently in the transfer market. This summer they convinced Gundogan and Martinez to join on free transfers, and reports indicate they’re looking to sign Nico Williams on a free next year.
But, they will have some money available, especially if there is a major outgoing as we saw with Ousmane Dembele’s move to PSG this summer.
FC Barcelona identify Key Target for 2024 Summer Transfer Window
According to journalist Jose Alvarez who was speaking to El Chiringuito TV, FC Barcelona has yet again made Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva their number one transfer target.
Barca has been linked with Silva for three years now, and reports indicated that Silva was interested in making a move to Catalonia before signing a new deal to stay in Manchester.
However, that new deal reportedly includes a release clause, and Alvarez reports that the release clause is for €50 million.
While there is some hope that a deal could happen in January, it’s unlikely that Barca would be able to fit Silva under the cap that they’re already exceeding. Especially if Vitor Roque joins, which is still the plan despite the Brazilian striker suffering an ankle injury that looks set to sideline him for several months.
It’s clear that Barcelona are admirers of Silva and there is certainly a belief that the Portuguese midfielder is keen to make a move. But we’ve been hearing these rumours for three years now, so this is a case of we’ll believe it when we see it.
