Activity in Barcelona is likely going to be minimal in the January transfer window, due to squad registration issues stemming from their financial problems. If any activity is to happen, then it will likely involve players departing the club.

Los Cules will be wanting improvements made to their squad as they demand domestic and European glory, however they will probably know that January is not the time to do it. Hansi Flick will know he will have to make some clearances in order to bring players in this summer.

Injuries throughout the squad seem to have settled now, but the German manager will be wanting to sell a number of players who are surplus to requirements.

Here are some of the Barcelona players who might be heading more towards leaving in January...

The 3 Barcelona players on thin ice going into the January transfer window

Marc-André ter Stegen

The German goalkeeper remains one of the club’s highest earners, and Barcelona will be looking to offload the player in a similar way to their summer exit strategy. An operation had disrupted his season, but now fit, he will be looking for a first-team role with a World Cup only six months away. Joan Garcia has established his role as the number one ‘keeper, and Wojciech Szczesny serves as the back-up, so there remain limited opportunities at the club.

The 33-year-old may look for a move away in the January window if there is no route back to the first team at Camp Nou. Girona are keen, while there is always interest from Turkey and back home in Germany.

Dani Olmo

While some players are untouchable, Dani Olmo isn’t. The Spanish playmaker has not reached the form he would have wanted since joining his boyhood club, with his displays this season coming under criticism from the fans. Fermin Lopez appears to have succeeded him, and with Gavi returning and the emergence of Dro Fernandez, his opportunities may seem limited.

Interest from the Premier League will be high with the big spenders sniffing the opportunity to bring the Spanish playmaker back to his best.

Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski’s potential departure in January would mark a major turning point for Barcelona, but this window represents the last opportunity to cash in on the Polish striker. Saudi and MLS clubs are reportedly keen, offering financial relief, while his status as a proven goal scorer remains important for the club’s ambitions this season. The club will have to weigh up his wages and goalscoring ability against the transfer fee incoming to make the club sanction any move.

Replacing his quality won't come cheap, especially as they remain in pursuit of European and domestic glory.
