Alexia Putellas has announced her departure from Barcelona. After 14 years of service for the Blaugrana, the midfielder will bring her time at the club to an end.

According to reports, she has already agreed terms with the Women's Super League side London City Lionesses, in a move which will arguably be the biggest in the history of women's football. We will have one last opportunity to see her in a Barcelona jersey when she makes her farewell appearance today against Real Sociedad, to be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and kicking off at 19:00 CEST.

Barcelona's G.O.A.T.

Looking at the history of Barcelona Femeni, there has never been a greater player to have ever pulled on the shirt. Putellas joined Barcelona in 2012 as an 18-year old, and grew alongside the team as it transformed from a domestic power, to a Europe-conquering superclub.

There has never been any other female Ballon d'Or winner more dominant like her. Her individual and collective statistics are unmatched. In 507 games, Putellas has scored 232 goals, a figure which only Lionel Messi out ranks across the entire club.

Alexia Putellas is the second-highest goalscorer in FC Barcelona history across both the men's and women's teams, and only trailing behind the great Lionel Messi.

Putellas has 38 trophies for Barcelona, which includes:

  • 4 x UEFA Women's Champions League titles
  • 10 x La Liga titles
  • 10 x Copa de la Reina trophies
  • 6 x Spanish Super Cup trophies
  • 2 x Ballon d'Or titles
  • 2 x FIFA Best Women's Player

And many more, giving the world definitive answers over the question of the GOAT. She was the undisputed catalyst behind the club's first Champions League treble, and the catalyst behind Barcelona's tactical dominance.

Moving to London

The deal with the London City Lionesses is a landmark one. Whilst having the interest of both Paris Saint-Germain and a host of NWSL clubs based in the United States, the player has opted for the ambitious London-based project as her next step after Spain.

Tonight at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, it will be all about saying goodbye. Here you will see a stadium that will turn out in numbers to thank the player that not only brought trophies to Barcelona, but created modern day Barcelona Femeni.
