Andreas Christensen is officially back. The Danish central defender received medical clearance from the Blaugranas today and will be part of the squad for tonight's game against Deportivo Alaves.

His first inclusion in a matchday squad in 148 days provides Hansi Flick with a significant defensive boost for the remainder of the season.

The recovery: 21 weeks on the sidelines

Christensen last featured for the first team on December 16th, 2025 where he played 86 minutes in a Copa del Rey game against Guadalajara.

The Injury: A partial tear to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) of the left knee resulted in a long spell on the sidelines.

The Treatment: After consulting the club's medical staff, Christensen was undergoing conservative treatment rather than surgery which, after all these weeks of hard work and commitment, has been rewarded with a complete recovery.

Training Load: The 30-year-old had been participating in full group sessions for over a week without any set backs and is thus ready to be reintroduced back to the competition by Hansi Flick.

Tactical impact: Rotation for the 100-point goal

Although the La Liga title has been secured, the Blaugranas have set themselves a personal target of reaching 100 points and need their entire rotation to ensure the resting of key players such as Pau Cubarsi.

Squad Versatility: Christensen's presence in the team, both at center back and defensive pivot, allows Flick to have more tactical options during this crucial final week.

Expectations for the Alaves match

Due to his long spell on the sidelines, it's expected that Christensen will not start but rather come into the team for the last 15-20 minutes to get back up to speed. His knee will be under extreme test conditions, so Hansi Flick will look to carefully monitor his status.

This recovery could also be pivotal for his future at the club. Given a one-year contract extension and a possible salary readjustment that is currently being discussed, these last three matches will be a live test for the player to prove his importance in the 2026/27 project.
