FC Barcelona did it at the Camp Nou against Real Madrid. Flick's 200th match as coach, on Mother's day, and on the day of the death of his father, Barcelona are the champions of La Liga 2025-26. The way this is achieved will live in the memory for eternity.
How it all happened
It was a 2-0 victory for Barcelona with both Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres finding the net. A handicapped Real Madrid who were missing Mbappe, Valverde, Carvajal, Milito, Mendy, Rodrygo and Arda Guler were never going to match the intensity that Flick's men had right from the start.
Marcus Rashford who Barcelona are having doubts over his pemanent transfer had scored with a wonderful freekick. It was the first free kick in El Clasico for Barcelona since Messi's strike in 2012. He was followed by a second from Ferran Torres. A squad that is full of players playing for their careers and for their club have delivered when it really mattered.
And there was also an incredibly human story behind the celebration. Barely hours before kick-off it was revealed that Barcelona had announced the death of Flick's father, Hans-Gerd Flick. The German still decided to play his part and win. He is Hansi Flick.
Player ratings
GK: Joan Garcia - 7.5. Commanded his area all game and kept Real Madrid at bay on counter attacks. What a quiet achievement for Barcelona's shot stopper this season.
RB: Eric Garcia - 7.0. Was there for the absent Kounde at right back and was faultless, defensively sound and tidy on the ball.
CB: Pau Cubarsi - 8.0. Immense and dominated aerially and was like a seasoned veteran for someone aged just 18. He read the game brilliantly to deny the Madrid attackers.
CB: Gerard Martin - 7.5. Yet another solid performance from the centre back. He's been a revelation, but still feels crazy that this is his 30th appearance this season for Barcelona at CB.
LB: Joao Cancelo - 7.0. Was there for the whole team, providing defensive stability and attacking width in equal measures and the Madrid right side had no answer from him all evening.
CM: Gavi - 7.5. A Clasico where he completely gave it his all. He pressed them hard, won duels and truly set the tone for the entire game.
CM: Pedri - 8.5. The best player on the pitch. He dictated the tempo, found pockets of space all over and it felt like he was playing on another planet today. To be Barcelona's heartbeat when most of the other players had gone through the motions, he truly was remarkable.
RW: Marcus Rashford - 8.0. He scored and he caused absolute mayhem every time he got the ball. If Barcelona needed a 30 million fee justification they got it triple fold today from him.
CAM: Dani Olmo - 7.5. Sharp and creative, his quick feet were everywhere to provide space for Barcelona. Was magnificent with his back heel assist for Ferrann Torres' goal.
LW: Fermin Lopez - 7.5. He worked tirelessly and pressured the Madrid defence into a lot of errors. The Barcelona left flank was unpredictable due to his technique and both footedness.
ST: Ferran Torres - 8.0. The second goal of the night that decided La Liga and that finishing composure on a night like that can't be replicated. He really has come up for Barcelona when it matters most.
Substitutes:
Raphinha - 7.0. He immediately brought Camp Nou to life when he came on, the atmosphere felt completely different with his presence alone.
Robert Lewandowski - 7.0. Was given a roaring welcome back when he came on for what could be his last Clasico, fitting.
The bigger picture
This is Barcelona's 29th win so far, the most of any team in the history of La Liga at this point in the season. They will shatter the all-time record of 32 victories if they win their last three games of the season, their biggest of the season yet.
It has been one of Barcelona's greatest seasons ever, in a time without any financial superiority of their rivals. The only factors that matter in a season are the team's spirit, the manager's tactics, and the desire to win every game of the season, something Barcelona never lacked this season.
Flick said he would win titles, he has won the league back to back at the club, now he needs the Champions League too.
