Anthony Gordon is officially a Barcelona player. After completing the move the forward sat down with the press, stating that him and his family and agents had spent hours waiting in a hotel room fully expecting the deal to cross the finish line.

He came as a shock to everyone, speaking in Spanish. "I'm ready for this challenge. I know how much this club means for everyone," Gordon explained to us all, but this didn't happen overnight. "Believe it or not, I learned Spanish because I've always known that I would play for Barca. I had a physio at Newcastle, and I always told him that I would play for Barca one day."

The winger admitted to being incredibly excited to play under Hansi Flick. He said that one conversation with him in private solidified the move and called him an exceptional man-manager. When looking at goals for his time in Spain, he stated he wants to win it all and win 'La sexta,' a sixth Champions League for the club.

The winger spoke when asked what his style of play is for the fans who question him, he spoke direct comparison to Raphinha. "I would compare myself a lot to Raphinha, especially due to my intensity," Gordon declared. "We're fast, technical, play in behind, and we try to score goals always."

He went on to mention facing Barcelona at St. James' Park in the past and how their high press worked effectively until Pedri and Frenkie de Jong managed to disrupt them, and how he now wishes to play with them and Lamine Yamal.

Atletico Madrid needs to take notes

You have to look at the two whole transfer sagas to see the contrast in terms of institutional class. Newcastle United and Anthony Gordon provided a textbook of how a top player can leave a club. Atletico Madrid needs to go and have a serious look.

First of all, Anthony Gordon conducted his exit with the utmost respect. He politely told Newcastle he wanted a new challenge but also mentioned how he is still a Newcastle supporter and wishes them well. Barcelona negotiated in good faith, paid an incredible £80m which was the market value and Newcastle agreed with it; everyone moved on amicably.

Compare that to the childishness coming from Madrid. Julian Alvarez told Atletico Madrid that he also wishes to move to Barcelona, and Barca sent over a sensational £100m official offer.

Instead of maturely accepting the bid like a club that knows about the transfer market, Atletico got back on social media, posted witty quips about the situation and told untruths.

Newcastle United are the epitome of the perfect, premier club. Atletico Madrid’s leadership is acting like a small club, unable to accept the realities of the modern transfer market.
