Argentina are going to the World Cup final after tearing England’s soul out in a mad 2-1 comeback win. The semi-final was played on Wednesday at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia. England went up through Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute, but Lionel Messi had other plans. In the final minutes, the 39-year-old served up two worldy assists: to Enzo Fernandez in the 85th minute and the dagger to Lautaro Martinez in stoppage time, sending the reigning champions into Sunday's showdown with Spain.

We are truly lucky to be alive at the exact same time as Lionel Messi. The guy is 39 years old. He should be nowhere near running the greatest tournament on Earth, but he’s still the best player walking the planet.

English media talked trash, Messi just did the work

England media spent the entire week running their mouths, with former pros crowding every studio setting with their confident assertions that they had finally cracked the physical code for stopping a 39-year-old Messi. They highlighted their tactical structure. They raved about how they were going to impose their physicality.

It was all talk, all hype. Zero substance. You cannot stop God. As soon as Gordon gave England the lead, they curled into a ball and parked themselves. They parked the bus against the greatest footballer to ever walk the earth.

It is the competitive equivalent of cutting off your own leg, hoping that it doesn’t hurt anymore.

Messi, however, jogged around the park, watched them squirm, and waited for their legs to begin to die. He didn’t wait long before delivering two perfect passes to shatter all their dreams.

In the 85th minute, he found Enzo on the edge of the box for a thunderous equalizer. Seven minutes later, deep in stoppage time, he delivered the fatal blow: a pinpoint ball to Lautaro for the close-range header that instantly ended England's dream.

The numbers make no sense at all

What Messi is doing this entire tournament should make absolutely no logical sense. There’s no way he should be physically outmuscling elite Europeans in the greatest sporting competition on Earth at his age. He is, however, currently using them like they are all in training cones.

His numbers are out of this world

With 8 goals and 4 assists aleady in the World Cup, nobody is touching him when it comes to making statement.

Records are Falling Left and Right: He is adding to his massive lead over every other player to have ever stepped onto a World Cup pitch in all time goals and assists.

Barcelona and Spain vs Messi

England is heading home trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Manager Thomas Tuchel tripped over himself tactically in his substitutions. The English lost their composure, and they were ultimately humbled.

Sunday’s is the main event. Argentina vs. Spain. The reigning World champions against the European champions who just thrashed France in their Semi-Final match.

The thing is, no matter what happens Sunday, the day belongs to Messi. The English put up their entire hyped-up defensive scheme against him, and he waltzed through them.
