Marcus Rashford has ticked every box for Barcelona. He agreed to play a rotation role and to take a huge pay cut to sign for Barcelona. He is ready to take another pay cut to get the deal finalised. The staff at Barcelona have said he is an exemplary professional. He has won over Hansi Flick.

And still the deal is in stalemate because Manchester United will not budge on the £30m transfer fee.

What the reports say

The £30m transfer fee is the only thing standing between Marcus Rashford and a permanent stay at Barcelona. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish giants are not stalling on the player but on the structure of the transfer fee.

A £30m fee on a player turning 29 this October means amortization over a very short spell. This makes the numbers difficult to balance financially and Barcelona can't be reckless with the way they are structuring their spending this summer. Barcelona is planning for a massive structural overhaul this summer to fund major high profile signings. Barceloa cannot afford to spend much on this deal.

Mateo Moretto reports that the player himself wants to stay. He is settled in Barcelona, and believes in Hansi Flick's project. The player has proved it all season long with his performances and professionalism. The question is never about whether Rashford will want to move permanently. It is about United and Barcelona finding an agreement on the fee.

Manchester United have made it equally clear they have no need to compromise on the clause and are standing by their £30m asking fee. They want to make sure they recuperate as much of Marcus Rashford's transfer fee as possible.

Both parties remain firm, with Barcelona potentially having to decide on his future by trusting Flick's judgment of the player.

Rashford deserves more respect in Barcelona shirt

Rashford has scored 13 goals and 9 assists this season in all competitions. Flick is reportedly a big admirer of Rashford and this fact is said to be carrying significant weight in Barcelona's potential final decision.

There are still weeks to go in the window but one of those things will have to change: either United's asking price, or Barcelona find a way to afford it.

If the deal doesn't happen Rashford will start to consider his options but for now, the player is waiting.
