Barcelona’s transfer saga this summer hangs by a delicate thread. A clear desire for Julian Alvarez continues but proves impenetrable, while the Catalan side now navigates serious pressure from Paris Saint-Germain for one of their own, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Alvarez obsession and the Kroupi alternative
It is no secret that striker Julian Alvarez is a full-blown obsession for Barcelona. The hierarchy desperately wants to land the Argentine attacker from Atletico Madrid this summer. Unfortunately, this has proved to be a complete non-starter, with Atletico refusing to part ways with Alvarez in any way possible.
Barca did identify a contingency in Eli Junior Kroupi. The young talent would serve as a realistic backup option should Alvarez be an outright unattainable player for them this window. However, that avenue has also quickly closed.
Bournemouth has made it clear they won't sell to them, and this is something that Romano has now confirmed. The file is officially gone dark on a Kroupi transfer.
PSG come knocking for Ferran Torres
While Barcelona is stuck in negotiation hell for reinforcements at striker, they are now also at the other end of the table in negotiations for one of their existing attacking talents. PSG have been in touch with Ferran Torres' camp to open negotiations regarding a move to the French capital.
Given Torres is heading into the final year of his deal in summer 2027, PSG could have him relatively cheaply. When asked about the intensifying rumors around Torres' future at an event today, Joan Laporta brushed the topic away. The President insisted that he couldn't confirm anything regarding negotiations but reinforced that Torres is "a Barca player" currently playing well.
Two major sagas to close the window
Both a striker search (that has now been frustrated on two fronts) and a pressing question about an outbound forward have completely occupied this summer.
With Atletico Madrid unmoved on Alvarez, and PSG working to dismantle Barcelona's squad, it will come down to what Joan Laporta can achieve (or how he manages the fallout of his failures) over these remaining transfer window weeks.
