It’s turning into high gear at Barcelona to finish off one gigantic transfer window. After weeks of frantic negotiation and financial juggling, Barca appear to be getting very close to the end of folders concerning two crucial, inextricably linked operations.

Centerpieces to this domino effect are Ferran Torres and Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri.

Torres to Paris all but confirmed

Torres will become the next to depart Barcelona as negotiations between Barca and PSG have now advanced to a final agreement. The transaction involves a fixed fee of €50m plus another €5m in variables linked to performance.

The player and his representatives have had an agreement on personal terms with PSG in place for some weeks now. With Luis Enrique at the helm in the capital of France, Torres will get back together with one of his former Spain national managers. The finalising of this specific transfer has become a maximum priority for FC Barcelona now, and the expected cash inflow and release on the wage budget are fundamental to the next stage.

Push for Rodri

With the operation of Torres as effectively done already, Barca have gone into overdrive for Hansi Flick’s number one midfielder priority. The blaugrana have submitted their second formal proposal.

The new offensive operation has come in at €60m fixed plus an additional €5m as add ons. While this marks a significant step forward, the deal remains pending final agreement. Manchester City are holding out for a premium valuation, reportedly closer to the €80 million mark, but there is growing confidence within the Blaugrana camp that a compromise will be reached.

Now the board can prepare the move for Rodri, once the sale for Torres is finalised. If all goes well, the Catalan club will get their hands on another top player at this window.
