Ferran Torres has become a global superstar after scoring the winning goal that secured Spain's triumph at the 2026 World Cup. However, the Barcelona forward is also one of the most sought-after players on the transfer market, with Paris Saint-Germain currently leading the race for his signature ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.
The striker is currently in the United States on a promotional tour with Under Armour and was quizzed about his future during an appearance on NBC's Today show.
Asked where he sees himself playing next season, the 26-year-old stopped short of committing his long-term future to Barcelona, adding further fuel to the growing speculation surrounding his next move.
"“I have a contract with Barcelona, but in football you never know. I’m waiting to make the right decision. I still don’t know."
While Torres reaffirmed his commitment to Barcelona, he also acknowledged that "anything can happen" in football, leaving the door open to a potential departure, like many other Barcelona stars this summer. His comments have only intensified speculation that he could be set for a reunion with Luis Enrique at Paris Saint-Germain, with the French champions preparing an approach as they look to lure the Spanish international to the Parc des Princes.
Flick wants resolution
Ferran wants clarity over his future within the next week or so. And so does Hansi Flick, as the Barcelona boss looks to finalise his squad for the defence of the La Liga title and another push for Champions League glory.
Barcelona had been open to selling Torres in anticipation of, and with confidence in, signing Julián Álvarez, particularly given the significant fee they would have had to pay Manchester City to honour a clause. However, that blockbuster move has failed to materialise as expected, leaving the club in a rather awkward position.
Now, despite contact with PSG, the La Liga champions want Ferran to stay. Losing both Robert Lewandowski and Torres would leave Barcelona seriously short of options in the centre-forward position, while finding replacements of the same quality could prove difficult. Otherwise, the club risks repeating the mistakes of previous signings such as Martin Braithwaite and Vitor Roque, and nobody wants that sequel.
