Barcelona president Joan Laporta has personally entered the center of the Julian Alvarez transfer negotiations to launch Barcelona's second official bid. After Real Madrid's scandalous public phantom offer of 150M, and the subsequent social media mockery of Atletico Madrid, the Barcelona president bypasses the surrounding noise to directly deal with the Argentine's agent.

The Catalan club are readying a second offer that includes a package of 120 million fixed plus add-ons. The president demonstrates that Florentino Perez's political tactics make no difference to their approach.

The unacknowledged first offer and Laporta's maximum limit

This is an extreme and unexpected move by Laporta after Atletico Madrid didn't even bother to respond to Barcelona's first bid of 100 million; instead, the Metropolitano hierarchy chose to participate in a circus show with Real Madrid.

Laporta's second offer draws a clear red line:

  • The Ceiling: Real Madrid's empty figure of 150 million will never reach Barcelona. The second 120-million offer with fixed variables is the absolute amount the club is prepared to spend.
  • Rejection of capital: According to the player's entourage, Alvarez has never considered joining Real Madrid. If he leaves Atletico Madrid, his priority is undoubtedly Barcelona, disregarding profitable advances from Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal as well.
  • The club administration: Within Ciutat Esportiva they do not worry and have the saying, "the summer is very long and initial bids rarely define the end result of the signing".

The player's ultimatum vs Cerezo's blockade

The real stumbling block to Laporta's plans lies in the stubborn refusal of Atletico Madrid board. The president, Enrique Cerezo, has publicly stated,

"Julian is not for sale. We don't want to sell him"

To overcome the club administration's deadlock, an immediate movement is needed from the player himself. Laporta has given the player an ultimatum through his agent: Alvarez must publicly show his willingness to move to Catalonia.

Without an official, public transfer request from the player, Laporta is unable to force Atletico Madrid to accept their 120 million. Barcelona can not wage the transfer battle alone and must start the exit sequence from the inside.

Conclusion

The die is cast and Laporta has moved again with his planned second bid, after being disrespected with the 100 million initial offer. Now it is Alvarez's turn. If he stays silent, Cerezo will continue to cite the exaggerated 500 million release clause. If he speaks out and asks to join the Spotify Camp Nou, then Atletico Madrid will be forced to deal with Laporta's offer.
