The transfer saga between FC Barcelona and Manchester City over star midfielder Rodri has hit a major obstacle. Official sources have confirmed that the Premier League giants have rejected Barcelona's second offer.
Barcelona had recently made a bid of about €65 million. The proposition has been rejected by the Manchester City's top officials, and the noose over the spectacular summer transfer is getting tighter.
Financial Stalemate
The main points of contention between the two clubs is the disparity in evaluation. Manchester City are still asking for an initial guaranteed payment of between €70-80 million before they decide to release the Spaniard from the club.
Joan Laporta's team, on the other hand, are subject to a very tight budget in light of La Liga's fair play rules. The current offer from Barcelona is capped at €65 million, heavily dependent on factors that are conditional, variables and add-ons rather than guaranteed immediate cash payments.
What Now?
Although the deal has hit a stalemate, Barcelona are not ready to withdraw from the deal. They know that this is central to Hansi Flick's tactics for the season. They plan to pursue Rodri's transfer and are confident about the transfer happening.
Until Barcelona can make an offer that reaches the €70million guarantee price point, Manchester City are completely firm on their decision.
