Being sent on loan away from Barcelona should be a very humbling, painful experience, and players must adapt accordingly, by packing up their ego and proving why they actually have a future at the club. Marc Casado seems to have drawn a completely different conclusion about his move to Deportivo La Coruna.
Footage of the 22-year-old midfielder's visit to Deportivo's facilities on deadline day sees him marvelling at their changing room. Standing next to sporting director Fernando Soriano, Casado blurted out: "This is better than Barca and everything." When Soriano pressed him to see if he was joking, Casado didn't back down: "Honestly."
No one is expected to dislike good facilities, however these comments are extremely awkward for any new player being introduced to a club as an on-loan signing. More then anything, this illustrates just how much, the player is prioritizing the right things right now. Not the games.
Take an example of Eric Garca
So if Marc Casado wants to find an example for what is required as an on-loan player then there's really only one place he should look, with Barcelona's vice-captain Eric Garcia.
When Eric Garca moved to Girona, facilities meant nothing to him, either it be changing rooms or training pitches. The thing he knew was that Xavi had given up on him for that year and he had to start from scratch. He put his head down, put in the work, rectified his mistakes and became one of the key players for Girona in their midfield and defence.
Ultimately it is all down to the mind set of the player
This transfer saved Eric's career at the top level; it was a season of improvement and by the end of it the defender had become one of Barcelona's most prized assets under Hansi Flick and now their onw of their captains and a World cup winner. Not because Girona had nice dormitories, but because Eric took a challenge, and not a holiday to a pleasant venue with nice equipment.
Hansi Flick will never call up Casado again simply because he approves of the layout of the changing rooms at Deportivo. Facilities have nothing to do with anything and have never had. The key to being at Barcelona, is the mind, a thing Eric has and Casado is yet to master.
