Coming on the back of an impressive performance against Valencia, much had been expected from the Catalan club, and they delivered the same. Unlike the first game where Flick's side took off to momentum in the 2nd half, this time, FC Barcelona stood above the Athletic club from minute one. While it had been suspected that the club might lose points against a lineup having Nico, Inaki Williams, and Guruzeta, Barca won the fixture, 2-1, in the most dominating way.
Overall, it was a complete team effort, with every Blaugrana player contributing during his presence on the field. Here are the 3 Barcelona stars who stood out in the 2nd La Liga matchday against Athletic Bilbao:
Lamine Yamal
Whatever can be said about this La Masia youngster feels less, given his outstanding brilliance being just 17 years old. Coming on the back of a crucial contribution in the Valencia game, Yamal stood brilliant in the Athletic fixture. Scoring a banging curler from outside the box, the winger reminded everyone of his iconic Euro goal against France in the semis.
Not only did Yamal give FC Barcelona the lead with his go-ahead goal in the 24th minute, but he troubled the Athletic backline on various occasions with his presence on the right wing. Given the MOTM award for his performance in the 2nd Barca matchday, the Catalan club would certainly have much hope for the youngster to have a successful 2024/25 campaign.
