FLICK'S ERA KICKS OFF WITH A WIN

Barcelona rallied up from a goal down to grab a 'W' against their name on the opening weekend of the 2024-25 campaign. The Catalans scored on the opening matchday for the first time since the 2021-22 season and despite being unconvincing at times, have tuned in with much needed early momentum. Hansi Flick had promised to bring a certain brand of intensity and desperation with and without the ball and the early signs seem to be extremely promising.

In attack, Barcelona were quick in transition with occasional long balls to break open the Valencia defence. The team maintained its structure and barring a couple of lapses, were quick to close down their counterparts after losing the ball. The tactics and substitutions from the manager were on point. Debuts were handed over to Bernal and Gerard Martin while Eric Garcia made a return after a successful loan spell at Girona. The newcomers as well as the veterans played in a fashion which echoed the manager’s promise of being intense and upfront. Barcelona are missing some superstars owing to injuries and their return would certainly add another level to this side.
