Barcelona should consider Bayern Munich winger as intriguing alternative to Nico Williams

  • Nico Williams has reportedly returned to Athletic Bilbao from his summer vacation, likely ending Barcelona's chances of signing the Euro 2024 hero.
  • In light of this, Barca should begin examining alternative options to add wing depth, with Bayern Munich's Bryan Zaragoza at the top of the list.

With a brand new La Liga campaign quickly approaching, FC Barcelona’s search for additional wing depth has taken a new turn.

The club was exceedingly confident in their chances of securing Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, but recent developments suggest that the 21-year-old winger will remain with his boyhood club. After a lengthy vacation following Spain's Euro 2024 triumph, Williams has reportedly returned to Bilbao, all but ending Barcelona’s pursuit.

As Barcelona recalibrates internally, the board is looking at alternative options to boost its attack, and Bayern Munich’s 22-year-old winger Bryan Zaragoza could be an ideal target. Zaragoza caught Bayern’s attention with an impressive stint at Spanish side Granada, where he notched six goals and two assists across 21 appearances in La Liga.

While Zaragoza has flashed his raw talent and upside, breaking into the German club’s star-studded first team has proven challenging for the young Spaniard. Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on loaning out Zaragoza, and his potential move to Camp Nou would offer head coach Hansi Flick another quality option to rotate into the lineup.

Financially, a loan deal for Zaragoza would be a more feasible option for Barcelona than pursuing expensive attackers, potentially stunting Barca’s capacity to improve its squad. While Blaugrana would love to restore its reputation with a statement signing, the board must operate with the club’s best intentions.

The move would allow the Catalan giants to maintain flexibility in the transfer market, preserving their hopes of landing marquee signing Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. Olmo has reportedly already agreed on personal terms with Barcelona, making the possibility of his arrival more realistic if the club can manage its resources wisely.

Bryan Zaragoza represents a savvy, strategic solution for FC Barcelona — a player who could provide immediate depth on the flanks and align with the club’s long-term ambitions.
