Since FC Barcelona's initial years, the mentality of the club has been quite critical of the biggest European championship, the Champions League. Though it took a much longer time than was expected to get their hands on their first UCL trophy, the struggle of the initial years showed the way to establish their dominance in European football.
The Catalan club saw its glory prevail in every Champions League during the 2010 decade, with Barca lifting the meritorious trophy twice, in 2009 and 2011. This period saw the rise of various superstars, like Leo Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and Gerard Pique, with the greatest mastermind, Pep Guardiola, managing them.
However, since Barca's last Champions League triumph, more than nine years have passed, and the club has seen some of the most heartbreaking exits from UCL. In recent situations, the club's European glory has stood at an all-time low, accounted for by their 18th position in UEFA's 2024 club ranking.
Pedri wants to win the Champions League
Recently, having changed many things at the club, Barca is slowly moving to regain the momentum and stability to improve their odds for a successful Champions League run. Appointing the German tactician Hansi Flick, witnessing a gem of talent in Lamine Yamal, and making improved transfer decisions, the club has been doing things in the right direction.
Regarding the same, Barcelona star midfielder Pedri has shown his hunger that he is ready to do anything to help Barcelona achieve the UCL dream. Pedri said,
"“I have won La Liga and the Euros, but now I want to achieve the World Cup and the Champions League.”"Pedri
Pedri on Nico Williams's signing
As mentioned, the young midfielder seems to put in whatever is possible to seek European glory. Moreover, Pedri believes that Barca's pursuit of his Spanish teammate, Nico Williams, could be very helpful for the cause. Pedri spoke,
""Nico Williams would be an amazing signing for us. Everyone saw at the Euro what he's capable of.""Pedri
Given Nico's heroics at the Euro 2024 stage, everyone is convinced he would be an amazing addition to Barca's next-season roster. Thus, Barca hopes that with the combined effort of the players and staff, they will be able to end their Champions League and bring the beautiful trophy back to Camp Nou.
