In 2023, Barcelona signed Joao Cancelo from Manchester City for a one-year straight loan. This season, the fullback has been among the few standout players in La Liga.

With four goals and five assists this season, the Portuguese cemented his place as a mainstay in Xavi's starting XI. However, his one-year tenure is coming to an end on 30 June, and Barca and City will have to decide on the right-back's future.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the PL champions only want a straight transfer fee of €30M for the 30-year-old. Another option for Pep's side can be a loan with a mandatory buy option.

It will cost Manchester City €30M for a one-year loan of Joao Cancelo

At the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Cancelo penned down a long-term contract at the Etihad that runs until 2027. After his fallout with Cityzens boss Pep Guardiola, City no longer consider Joao part of their plans.

Recently, Pep gave his opinion on Cancelo's future, acknowledging that a potential deal needs to suit all parties involved. On the player's side, Joao Cancelo has made it clear that he wants to continue at the Camp Nou.

Also, with Sergi Roberto linked with an exit in this transfer window, Barcelona needs a right back, and Cancelo has proven himself as one of the world's best fullbacks who can play on both sides of the defense. With Clasico rivals Real Madrid strengthening their attack by adding Kylian Mbappe, FC Barcelona needs to form a rock-solid defence for next season to compete in La Liga as well as in Europe.
