- As per reports, FC Barcelona has halted its plan of signing a high-profile forward next summer.
Since his signing in July 2022, Polish international Robert Lewandowski has been one of the most consistent performers for FC Barcelona. Having close to 90 goal contributions in his 105 appearances so far for the Blaugrana club, Lewandowski has been quite good as the club's number 9 priority player.
FC Barcelona halts plan of signing a high-profile forward next summer
While the star forward had brilliant stats in Barca's last two season campaigns, with 35 and 41 goal contributions, respectively, this season Lewandowski has been a menace for opposition lineups. Although it was widely expected that the Polish legend would eventually shine, the forward numbers have been excellent this summer in a reunion with Hansi Flick.
Despite being 36, Robert Lewandowski has been much more effective in the club's frontline, having contributed to their 11 goals this season. Leading the race for the Pichichi award against some of the best players in La Liga, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Raphinha, the forward is still going strong at 36, giving no signs of stopping. Considering the same, recent sources reveal that FC Barcelona has decided to halt their hunt for a new striker for now.
While there had been reports indicating Barca's wish list options, having the likes of superstars Erling Haaland, Viktor Gyokeres, and Jonathan David, for the forward role, it seems the club doesn't feel a need for a reinforcement currently. As per reports from Diario SPORT, FC Barcelona is not planning to sign a striker next summer, trusting seasoned star Lewandowski in the role.
Analyzing the situation from Barca's perspective, the club has it certain that considering Lewandowski's contract since June 2026, with an option to extend one year, forward number 9 isn't of urgent priority. As reports from Diario SPORT indicate, the Polish legend feels strong, even at 36, and sees himself leaving Barcelona in 2026.
Overall, considering the recent run of Barca's star forward Lewandowski and the player's linkup with Hansi Flick, he could easily be much more effective for the club at the front for 2-3 years more. Given that the Blaugrana club has other priorities for reinforcement, continuing with Lewandowski might help fulfill them.
