FC Barcelona's start to the new season has been rather brilliant, apart from the two surprise losses against AS Monaco and Osasuna. While the Blaugrana club's overall effort has been brilliant until now, special praise needs to be given to their attack force, which has emerged as one of the best in Europe recently. While Lamine Yamal and Raphinha's brilliant run has been much important, Lewandowski has just been showing his prime levels.

As was expected, Lewandowski's reunion with Hansi Flick has been spectacular, with the forward feeling better than ever. Having 7 goals in his 9 appearances this season, Lewandowski currently leads the Pichichi race, being one of the best forwards in Europe this season. However, considering that he's already turned 36, it is certain that the Blaugrana club would need to look for options for the future.
As per Diario SPORT reports, the most prominent ones in the club's shortlist options for the role include sensational star Viktor Gyokeres and Lille's star forward Jonathan David. However, upon analyzing the scenario closely, it appears much clearer that given the hype Gyokeres's name has made in Europe, the Sporting forward seems surely to be a much hefty option.
Although the 26-year-old Sporting star has been one of Barca's favorites, the club might not pursue him for being too expensive financially. As sources suggest, Barca would likely invest in comparatively low-cost strikers, who could provide significant value addition for a reasonable transfer fee. And thus, the option of Jonathan David becomes much more significant.
Since signing for Lille in 2020, the forward has had staggering numbers, with 100+ goal contributions in his 194 club appearances. Coming on the back of a brilliant 2023/24 season, David's numbers this season have been outstanding. Netting seven times while providing four assists, the Canadian has been a menace in European football.
Moreover, analyzing his contract situation, David's Lille agreement runs down next summer, and thus, chances could significantly rise in favor of him making an exit move. Additionally, as compared to Viktor Gyokeres, Jonathan David might be a much more cost-effective option, being available for around €40-€50 million.
Even though David's transfer move is in the initial stages, his possible Barcelona move could be a significant step in the club securing a trusted forward for years to come. The Blaugrana fans would hope that a potential transfer becomes the reality, with him combining alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, comprising one of the best front three in Europe.
