First Torres and now Christensen sees Newcastle on Barca spree
Newcastle United is arguably the richest club in the world. After highs of securing a Champions League place in the first full season under Saudi owners, the Magpies dropped out of Europe entirely after finishing mid-table in 2023/24.
This has not gone well with the Newcastle board, and huge signings are expected at St. James Park. Last week, Jijantes FC reported Newcastle United's shock €15+5 M offer for Ferran Torres.
Now, the Saudi backed club is again looking at Barca, this time for versatile centre back Andreas Christensen. The 27-year-old is highly admired in England due to his remarkable ten years with Chelsea.
Newcastle has targeted several Barcelona players
Since joining the Catalan club on a free in 2022, Christensen has proven to be a reliable squad player, filling in at centre back and even as a pivot whenever needed.
The Dane is under contract until 2026 at the Camp Nou, so, Barcelona won't let him go for cheap. As for Newcastle's interest in the Blaugrana, there are higher chances of Christensen or any other Barca star joining Tyneside in the summer.
If Christensen does leave FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick and Joan Laporta will have only Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Pau Cubarsi as the only distinguished center-backs in the squad. In such a case, the club should prepare a shortlist of options and look for potential centre back options from this Euros and the Copa America in June and July. If such a situation arises, it will be a big decision as to who will be the backline leader for the Catalan defence for years to come.
