- As per reports, FC Barcelona is looking to find a suitable replacement for the injured Ter Stegen.
FC Barcelona has been stupendous this La Liga season. Winning six fixtures consecutively, that too in the most dominant fashion, the club seems to have found a new prime under the German mastermind Hansi Flick. While there had been several speculations that their shocking defeat against Monaco, might have their dream run ended, the Blaugrana club came stronger than ever, defeating Villarreal 5-1 at the Ceramica stadium.

However, what has been the most impressive fact is that even after the injuries of star players Dani Olmo, Gavi, Araujo, de Jong, Fermin, and now Ter Stegen, the club seems unstoppable, doing the magic with their La Masia cadets. Extremely impressed with the club's performances this season, La Liga President Javier Tebas exclaimed,
""Thank goodness they didn't sign more players, they would have won 10-0.""
- Javier Tebas
Moreover, the President stated it clear as to what the club can do in Marc Andre Ter Stegen's injury scenario. For context, in the Barca Vs Villarreal fixture, just at the stroke of halftime, Ter Stegen faced a severe injury, resulting in him being forced on a stretcher. As per the recent reports, Ter Stegen has a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee, and estimatedly, he could be out for more than 8 months.
""Barcelona have the right to sign a player if the injury to Ter Stegen is long-term. They can sign a goalkeeper as a replacement.""
- Javier Tebas
As per the current scenario, the club only has the free agents available to be signed as replacements, shrinking their variety of options. Out of those, Wojciech Szczęsny currently stands as the favorite, given he had been an integral part of the Juventus setup for a long time, and if the club convinces him to come out of retirement, he could be a suitable option, being that he is 34 years old only.
Comparatively, the rest of the options are either much older or don't have been a consistent starter in a European giant club. Interestingly, Barca's veteran goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who guarded the Blaugrana goal during 2014-2016, has assured that he can come out of retirement if the club needs him. However, that might not just work, him being 41 years old now, and it remains to be seen what Flick and his staff brainstorm for the number 1 role.
