Since his debut for the Catalan club in September 2020, Pedri has been the face of the Barca midfield. In his debut season, the youngster recorded 52 appearances, showing his durability and consistency on the European level. Being a creative playmaker by trait, the Spaniard was vital alongside De Jong in the midfield as Barca won the La Liga in the 2022/23 season, against all odds.

Understandably, Pedri's absence for most of the 2023/24 season proved detrimental for the Catalan side as FC Barcelona ended their campaign trophyless. Coming on the back of an on-and-off season, Euros 2024 was the perfect opportunity for the box-to-box midfielder to showcase his brilliance for the National side. De La Fuente's media address before Euro 2024 stated,

""Pedri is one of the best players in the world and the Euros is an excellent opportunity for him to show the world who he is.""

Kicking off the Euros 2024, in the matchday against Spain, Pedri delivered a masterpiece against Croatia. Providing an assist within the first half and maintaining 100% pass accuracy, the youngster announced his arrival before La Fuente subbed him off in the 59th minute.

Euro 2024 over for Pedri

Based on his recent performances, everyone expected a piece of brilliance from the 21-year-old against Germany in the Euro Quarterfinal. Then arrived the much-awaited matchday, Pedri looked good, with the midfielder feeling in complete control of the game.
Everything seemed well until a rough tackle from the German veteran, Toni Kroos, had Pedri on the ground. Pedri, being not in a shape to continue with, got immediately subbed off for Dani Olmo.

Though Spain went on to win the match, 2-1, in the extra time, Pedri's absence can be a huge setback for the Spanish side as they face France in the Semifinals. Recent reports have mentioned that Pedri could have a sprain of the internal lateral ligament of his left knee after the first medical observations. Though further tests are pending, Barca insider Gerard Romero took to his Twitter handle, saying,

""Depending on the degree of Pedri's sprain, he may be out from 1 week to 1 month.""

That means Euro 2024 is now over for the Spanish midfielder, as announced by the Spanish FA on Friday. Though the new season starts a month away, Pedri's injury could shatter the Barca morale as they look to make a brilliant start to their 2024/25 campaign under Hansi Flick. Hopefully, the pivot midfielder recovers as soon as possible to set the stage again for the Blaugrana club.
