Barcelona midfielder Pedri will miss five weeks due to a left knee sprain which he suffered during Spain’s quarterfinal matchup against Germany.

The budding talent was forced to leave the pitch after an incidental collision with legendary German midfielder Toni Kroos, as the two players each lunged for the ball. Pedri was immediately subbed off, and it was clear that he wouldn’t be able to continue the match.

Pedri’s most recent injury is the latest in a long line of unfortunate ailments that have already seen him miss north of 85 games total for club and country. It just seems like if it’s not one thing, it’s another for the unlucky midfielder. Pedri, 21, has shown real promise when he’s been available for the squad, registering 33 goal contributions across four seasons in the senior team.

The injury will unfortunately mean that Pedri will miss all of Barcelona’s preseason tour, and maybe even the start of the 2024/25 La Liga campaign. With both Pedri and Uruguayan defender Araujo set for the sidelines, Barcelona will be without two key talents to open the season, and it will have to do its best to hold the structure of the team until their return.
