Paris Saint-Germain have targeted Barcelona's defender Eric Garcia as one of their main transfer objectives for next summer. As per French outlet Le Parisien, the French giants are prepared to spend over €70 million in order to sign the 25-year-old Spanish defender.

PSG manager Luis Enrique is said to be lobbying heavily for the signing of the young Spanish international, having coached him in the Spanish National team. Enrique views Garcia as the ideal complement to his defense due to the latter’s sublime technical skills on the ball, versatility in defence and tactical intelligence.

From La Masia outcast to indispensable starter

The staggering €70m price being talked about in the French press is evidence of the player’s extraordinary evolution over the course of the last two campaigns. After spending his first three seasons as an auxiliary piece at Spotify Camp Nou, Garcia’s loan spell at Girona and his starring role in Hansi Flick’s system has seen him evolve into a key player.

At both Girona and Barcelona, Garcia has proven his value as a 'universal’ defensive midfielder or as a fullback in Flick’s system. His display in the past few sesons has made him a key component in the Catalan side’s system, providing much needed steel.

Barcelona's stance on a mega-offer

From a financial standpoint, the offer for a home-grown product would represent a pure earning opportunity for Barcelona, who would welcome the economic relief with open arms. Deco will most likely listen to any enticing selling proposition on the economic front.

However, sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick will almost surely oppose any transfer activity that threatens the squad’s core structure. Garcia has come of age as a footballer in Blaugrana and would be a huge loss in the event of a transfer to a direct Champions League rival. Unless the player himself voices out an interest in departing for Paris, Barcelona are expected to firmly say no to any advances from PSG.
