Real Betis vs Barcelona match preview

Will Barcelona continue their flawless start to the campaign to commence a crucial week? On Tuesday night, despite falling behind early, Hansi Flick's team fought back to demolish Galatasaray 4-1 in İstanbul. João Cancelo equalised on the cusp of half time, before Barça bagged three goals in 15 minutes to secure the points. Fermín López fired them in front and Lamine Yamal balletically set up Anthony Gordon to strike, before Karim Adeyemi came off the bench to lash home a fourth.

Overall, Barcelona have now won all ten matches they have played this season, scoring a ridiculous 43 goals, only failing to bag four or more on three occasions. However, Flick's team are set to be severely tested this week. On Tuesday, the Blaugrana face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League away from home on Tuesday, before the small matter of a Clásico at Camp Nou next Sunday. If Barça still boast a 100% record by then, that will be some achievement.

Well, first and foremost, this promises to be Barcelona's sternest examination of the season so far. That is because, Real Betis are currently third in La Liga, just five points behind the leaders. Los Verdiblancos were smashed 5-1 by Levante in August but this is a real outlier and, that aside, they are unbeaten in La Liga, conceding only four times across the other seven matches.

Manuel Pellegrini's team have also won all four at their temporary home of La Cartuja, most-recently smashing Osasuna 5-2 last Sunday. Meantime, back in the Champions League for the first time in 21 years, los Heliopolitanos have begun with back-to-back 3-2 wins. Following a victory in Lille, they came from behind to beat Porto in Seville on Wednesday, courtesy of Isco's late spot-kick.

That made it seven successive home wins for Betis, most notably defeating Real Madrid 1-0 at the Cartuja last month. So, could Pellegrini's team become the first to pick up anything against Barcelona this season?

Real Betis team news

Manuel Pellegrini made five changes for Wednesday's win over Porto, underlining the strength in depth he boasts. Héctor Bellerín is among those who could return, hoping to lineup against his former club. Meantime, Troy Parrott was the late match-winner against Real Madrid, so could the Irishman repeat the feat?

In a major boost, Hansi Flick confirmed on Friday that both Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha are available for selection. The Brazilian suffered a thigh injury on international duty in Australia, while the Dutchman has not featured since sustained a knee medial ligament tear during the World Cup.

In Raphinha's absence, Gabriel Jesus and Dani Olmo have both been deployed up front, while Karim Adeyemi will be hoping his goal off the bench in İstanbul earns him a start. With PSG and then Real Madrid to come, do not be surprise if Flick rotates a bit.

Predicted Line-ups

  • Real Betis predicted lineup: Valles; Bellerín, Bartra, Naan, García; Bernal, Roca, Antony, Isco, Abde; Parrott.
  • Barcelona predicted lineup: García; Koundé, Cubarsí, Martín, Espart; Rodri, Pedri, Fermín; Lamine Yamal, Gordon, Jesus.

  • Score prediction: Real Betis 1-3 Barcelona.
