It's done. Barcelona and Manchester City have come to total terms on signing Ballon d'Or winning midfielder Rodri in what has been one of the summer's largest transfers.

After just hours upon signing Joao Cancelo as a free agent, Barcelona's Sporting director Deco has managed to sign Rodri as well.

The Catalan side failed with a €64.5M proposal a few days ago but came back with one final, huge offer. The citizens have today confirmed the agreement with a package structured for €65M in guaranteed clauses, with an extra €5M of achievable incentives linked to performance.

The missing profile

The acquisition of Rodri is a significant declaration from Joan Laporta in this transfer window. Rodri has been the #1 midfield target this entire time from Flick, a world-class pivot whom the manager will employ to control the tempo from deep and allow his teammates to venture forward with confidence.

Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball award in the FIFA World Cup 2026, having played an instrumental role in leading Spain to World Cup glory.

For his part in Manchester City, Rodri leaves England having come back after his Ballon d'Or season, ending one of the longest and dominant reigns in Premier League football.

Although initially, a €70-80M firm payment was expected as reported by City, the Sky Blues have relented in order to finally conclude negotiations before the window is shuttered.

Barcelona received confirmation on this move early after freeing up funds and the Financial Fair Play space this past week due to the sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain. Medicals have been requested by the Blaugrana. Rodri is soon off to Barcelona.
