The World Cup spotlight finally turns to Spain, with anticipation building over whether stars such as Lamine Yamal and Pedri can light up the tournament from the very first match. Against Cape Verde, La Roja will be expected to make a statement and showcase why they are considered among the favourites to lift the trophy.

One of the key talking points will be Luis de la Fuente's team selection. With Saudi Arabia also to come before the tougher tests arrive, the Spain manager must decide whether to unleash his strongest XI or use the opening fixtures to rotate and carefully manage players such as Yamal and Nico Williams, both of whom have had fitness concerns in recent months.

Barcelona's influence on the squad is impossible to ignore. Nine Blaugrana players have made the trip to North America, meaning roughly a third of Spain's squad comes from the Catalan club. As a result, there is every chance that Barcelona stars will play leading roles as Spain begin their quest for World Cup glory.

Predicted XI for game against Cape Verde:

Goalkeeper: Unai Simon

Trusted as Spain's first-choice goalkeeper, with the Athletic Club shot-stopper preferred to David Raya in competitive matches. Meanwhile, Joan García appears set to occupy the third-choice role as he gains experience within the national team setup.

Right back: Pedro Porro

The Tottenham full-back offers a more attack-minded option, but he is likely to play a supporting role behind Marcos Llorente, whose experience and versatility could prove invaluable as the tournament reaches its decisive stages.

Centre Back: Pau Cubarsi

The 19-year-old has endured an inconsistent campaign with Barcelona, but his immense talent and potential remain undeniable, making him one of Spain's most exciting young prospects heading into the tournament.

Centre back: Aymeric Laporte

The right foot and left foot combination will work well. Likely to be Spain’s first choice centre back pairing throughout the tournament.

Left back: Marc Cucurella

The better of the two left backs and will be wanting to replicate his European Championship form. Rumours of a Real Madrid move impending could leave Barcelona fans not cheering for the former La Masia graduate.

Central midfield: Rodri

The midfield general will be pivotal to anchor the side, providing control, composure and defensive protection in front of the back four. I wouldn't be surprised if Zubimendi is in for this game though.

Centre midfield: Pedri

The Barcelona maestro will be tasked with dictating the tempo and unlocking Cape Verde's defence with his vision and passing. He will be looking to add assists to his national tally.

Centre midfield: Gavi

Fabio Ruiz is the regular partner, however Gavi’s appears to have the  national teachers pet status and his chance to shine could come in the first game. Bringing energy and intensity to midfield, Gavi's pressing and ball-winning ability could set the tone for Spain's performance.

Right wing: Ferran Torres

Give Lamine Yamal a rest, particularly as Luis de la Fuente admitted he is unable to play the full game. The Barcelona striker can play as an inside forward allowing Porro to overlap. Torres will be looking for goals after my early prediction.

Left wing: Alex Baena

The experienced forward offers intelligence, movement and a proven eye for goal as Spain seek a strong start to their campaign.

Striker: Mikel Oyarzabal

Expected to provide creativity from wide areas, Baena's delivery and chance creation could be key to breaking down a stubborn Cape Verde defence.
