Spain face Austria in the World Cup Round of 32 looking to build momentum after topping their group. While the reigning European champions progressed with relative ease, they will be aiming to raise their performance levels as the knockout stage begins, particularly with their star youngster back to full fitness.

Luis de la Fuente's side head into the clash in California as clear favourites, boasting quality across the pitch and a squad packed with world-class talent, including several key Barcelona players who have played a major role in Spain's campaign so far.

Predicted XI for game against Cape Verde:

Goalkeeper: Unai Simon

Many in Spain have questioned why David Raya has yet to feature for Spain, however you cannot argue with Athletic Bilbao form. He is the undisputed number one in Luis de la Fuente’s eyes.

Right back: Pedro Porro

The Tottenham defender adds a better option in attack, with his defensive levels considered equal with Marcos Llorente. Can see Eric Garcia coming in for the tougher opponents.

Centre back: Pau Cubarsi

Played every minute of the group stage and will be unlikely to be dropped if he is fit for the game. The centre back has looked solid in all three games

Centre back: Aymeric Laporte

Laporte has also impressed, with his left-footed partnership in central defence allowing Spain to play out from the back with greater fluency.

Left back: Marc Cucurella

The new Real Madrid defender is unlikely to win over Barcelona fans after a move many view as a betrayal of his La Masia roots. For now, though, the Barça faithful can put those club loyalties aside and cheer him on with Spain.

Central midfield: Rodri

The holding midfielder will operate as the deepest player in midfield, providing protection against Austria's counter-attacks. His presence will allow Pedri and his midfield partner greater freedom to dictate possession and control the tempo of the game.

Centre midfield: Pedri

The midfield maestro is an automatic starter when fit, with few players in world football capable of matching his passing range and control.

Centre midfield: Fabian Ruiz

The ideal partner for Pedri, offering the perfect blend of defensive solidity and attacking quality. The two-time Champions League winner will also be aiming to add a World Cup to his growing collection of trophies.

Right wing: Lamine Yamal

The winger is expected to continue building his match fitness and could be in line for a full 90 minutes. However, if Spain establish a comfortable lead early, he is likely to be substituted to preserve his fitness for the later rounds.

Left wing: Alex Baena

The Atlético Madrid winger has impressed throughout the World Cup and, with fitness concerns surrounding Nico Williams, is expected to retain his place in the starting XI. He will be aiming to continue his excellent goalscoring form.

Centre forward: Mikel Oyazabal

The Real Sociedad attacker will be looking for more goals and more impact as Spain's leading man, as he puts Ferran Torres on the bench
