Barcelona given lifeline to secure key target amidst Real Madrid interests
Barcelona have been given a lifeline after Van de Beek claims there is nothing official with Real Madrid despite reports claiming an agreement with Ajax.
Quique Setien will surely be looking to bring some reinforcements who are ideal for his playstyle especially with the major concern of aging players all across the current Barcelona squad. One such potential talent that has emerged as a solution to this problem is Van de Beek, who is highly demanded by Real Madrid’s coach Zinedine Zidane.

When it comes to popularity in world football, Zidane has the upper hand over Setien and this was reportedly one of the factors used to influence De Beek to join Los Blancos in the summer.
The Dutch international recently commented that he would leave Ajax only in the summer as any winter transfer will have a drastic impact on the remainder of the season for the Dutch club.
De Telegraaf (Via AS), a Dutch newspaper, reported that Real Madrid have won the battle for the midfielder and that the 22-year-old will arrive at the Bernabéu in the coming months after finalizing a €55 million deal. It claims that the Holland international will arrive after the departure of few players who are not in Zidane’s plans, including candidates like James Rodriguez.
Donny is one of the few players remaining from the Ajax squad that made it to the Semi-Finals of the Champions League last season. Fellow country teammates, Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong have both joined Juventus and Barcelona respectively, in order to improve their skills and claim the recognition of being one of the best in the world.
De Beek, according to AS, has now claimed that there is nothing official with Los Blancos despite reports claiming the deal is done.
"“Nothing is official. I have not signed any contract. That is the situation. That has not changed throughout the season,” Van de Beek told"
This could prove to be a lifeline for the Catalan side who could benefit significantly by signing the 22-year-old, who could play alongside former teammate Frankie de Jong. The youngster has scored 9 goals along with providing 8 assists in 27 appearances for Ajax this season. The Barca midfield is not set in stone yet with frequent rotations between Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, who are all aging. Arthur Melo is still recovering from his injuries but is reputed to be the next star alongside Frenkie de Jong. If Donny arrives at the Nou Camp, De Jong will play in Busquet’s position while De Beek will take his place alongside Arthur to complete the midfield trio.
