Major Barcelona transfer plans underway after star prepare to join City.

Barcelona had a massive operation for this summer involving multiple European giants like Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Juventus.

More from Everything Barca

One of Barca’s major targets, Lautaro Martinez, has been made available for 111 million euros by Inter Milan. His clause is such that any club can sign the Argentine if the amount is paid fully before the expiration date in July.

The Spanish giants, however, do not have such a massive amount at their disposal as they are struggling financially. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made matters worse as footballing events all over the globe have been shutdown.

All the clubs must now adapt to a more creative approach to sign their targets in the next transfer window. Barca’s approach for Lautaro has been to provide players to Inter in exchange for the striker but Nerazzurri ‘s sporting director recently stated that the only way to acquire the young forward is to pay his complete transfer fee without any player exchange or installments.

Barca cannot pay this amount and in return have constructed a major creative operation which is now underway after the first part of the plan has been deemed successful as Nelson Semedo readies to join Manchester City.

The plan is to involve Semedo in an exchange deal with Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo. The two Portuguese internationals will swap clubs in order for Cancelo to be later traded to Inter Milan for Lautaro Martinez.

Losing Semedo to City and Cancelo to Inter will mean that Barca are left without a right-back of their own. This is where Juventus come in with their very own full-back, Mattia de Sciglio. The Turin based club are negotiating with the Catalans for multiple players like Arthur Melo and Ansu Fati in exchange for Miralem Pjanic and De Sciglio.

Sport reports that Semedo has been placed in the transfer market for 40 million euros with Manchester City being named as the player’s most desired destination. The Portuguese international wants to join Pep Guardiola‘s City this summer.

The Premier League side have offered Cancelo in exchange which fits perfectly in Barca’s creative project. The issue is that the latest comment by Inter Milan’s Sporting Director of desiring only cash for Lautaro Martinez has now forced Barca to insist City to pay the 40 million euros for Semedo instead of providing Joao Cancelo.

The 40 million euro will not only give them financial aid that they would need to secure Lautaro but could also be used to invest elsewhere for another transfer like Pjanic. If they opted for the player exchange then they would be either forced to use Cancelo next season or face difficulty trading him with Inter.
