The Catalan giants are hoping to finalize a sale for their wantaway midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, in order to help fund their deals for Lautaro Martinez and Miralem Pjanic. For this reason, the club are trying to push the former Liverpool star’s departure with the player’s latest claim of desiring a move to the Premier League.
His sale, however, is not easy despite him being a solid midfielder because of the financial situation of clubs around the world that have been severely impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The massive transfer fee attached to Coutinho along with his expensive weekly wages has pushed back multiple interested parties.
Despite this, Sport reports that Barca remains optimistic as they look to finalize a deal with either Chelsea or Tottenham being the possible contenders. The Spanish side are hoping to secure a discounted fee of around 70 to 90 million euros for the Brazilian with the two Premier League clubs open to negotiation it even further by providing a player in return.
Coutinho was initially offered to both Inter Milan and Juventus as part of the ongoing negotiations with Barca for Lautaro Martinez and Miralem Pjanic respectively. The Italian giants have rejected the offer as they will be unable to afford his salary.
Chelsea and Tottenham are ideally looking to secure the player on a loan deal as a permanent transfer might have economic repercussions if he fails to perform. The two sides are hoping to sign a similar deal that Coutinho signed with Bayern, a loan deal with an option to purchase later.
Barca, however, are looking for a transfer as they need to generate funds this summer. They are aware that no club in the current market will be willing to spend 90 million cash and so have accepted to discuss player exchanges instead.
They are looking to reinforce their current squad with new defenders, especially full-backs and a central defender, and believe a player with a value of around 30m will be appropriate as they desire a 50-60 million sum in cash.
