More from Everything Barca

Messi’s expiring contract is the biggest concern for the current Barca board especially after a disastrous season which resulted in the Argentine’s outburst expressing his disappointment.

The club captain has stated that he would strongly consider leaving if the board does not sign quality reinforcement in the next transfer window while also desiring a change in the sporting project.

In terms of the players, Leo desires many changes but the two consistent targets have been the reunion with Neymar along with signing Luis Suarez‘s successor, Lautaro Martinez.

Unfortunately for the Catalans, their previously held financial struggles only got worse by the outbreak of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has further hindered their transfer plans. While the dream of signing multiple superstars remains, realistically the club can only manage one big signing based on their current economic strength.

Inter Milan’s striker has been named the priority as the team continues to struggle to break through the opposition’s defense. While Neymar is desired, the club already have Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele, and the latest signings Pedri and Francisco Trincão, to cover that position.

While the uncertainty over the club’s intentions remains, president Bartomeu has opened up about his plans for the future. when it comes to Messi’s expiring contract, he had no doubt the club will manage to secure the Argentine maestro for years to come.

"“Messi has said many times that he wants to retire here and I have no doubt that he will renew,”Source Goal via Mundo Deportivo."

Meanwhile, Leo’s best friend, Suarez, at the age of 33 could potentially meet the end of his career but the president claims that his current contract won’t allow it.

"“Luis has a contract that, depending on the number of games he plays, automatically renews for the 2021-22 season,”"

In terms of the signings of Neymar and Lautaro, however, the president did not seem optimistic about securing either one of  them by stating,

"“Players [On Neymar’s signing], if they do not come in swap deals for other players, it is very difficult for them to come,”“We have spoken with Inter [About Lautaro] but now the issue is paused, now we are concentrating on the pitch, as we prepare for the Champions League.”"

While the Neymar deal remains dependent on PSG opting for an exchange deal, Lautaro talks with Inter have been paused until the conclusion of the Champions League campaign.
