Barcelona deny contact with De Sciglio despite deal claims from Italy

After the successful deal of Miralem Pjanic and Arthur Melo with Juventus, Barcelona are interested in orchestrating one for Italian defender, Mattia De Sciglio. Reportedly, a newspaper outlet in Italy claims that the Spanish side have renewed their interest in acquiring the defender.

While Setien’s men have had a tough campaign this season, the Barca board looks to reinforce the squad, and a lot of young players seem to be on the target list, with the most prominent being Lautaro Martinez.  With so many names up for transfer and loans this season from the squad, De Sciglio has been identified as the perfect replacement to departing defenders like Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo.

The Italian defender is a graduate of AC Milan‘s youth academy and has excellent crossing capabilities added to his diverse skill set that allows him to play on either side, which makes him an asset for the Spanish giants.

Despite being part of the first team, the 27-year-old has only made 11 appearances across all competitions this season and has managed to start only 8 of those. With an injury to his right leg, he has missed out on quite a few matches as well.

Although representatives of the Catalans, as well as the player’s agents, have denied any contact establishment between the two parties involved, speculation continues. The Juve player should be willing to make a move especially while he’s still in his prime and is slowly being eliminated from Coach Maurizio Sarri’s vision for the team.

Meanwhile, his arrival at Camp Nou depends on the departure of defenders, Junior Firpo and Semedo, who are both on the transfer list. At an estimated10 million euros, De Sciglio would be a good addition for Barcelona, if they decide to take the negotiations forward.
