Barcelona striker target available for cheap amid free transfer talks
Barcelona could catch a break with an important target available for transfer.
Memphis Depay was one of Ronald Koeman’s top transfer requests in the last transfer window. The Dutch striker had already impressed the Barcelona boss when he worked with the coach in the Dutch national team. The Catalans even tried to offload some players in order to bring in Depay however, due to financial complications, the winger could not be brought into the club.

The plan originally was to sell Ousmane Dembele to English giants, Manchester United for a fee upwards of 60 million euros. This would give them enough money to bring in the Depay and pay his wages. It was going pretty smooth until the French forward decided at the last minute that he would not join United and thus, the deal broke down.
Without the additional funds, Barcelona were unable to acquire the Dutch forward. Koeman desperately wanted him at the club because he would use him as his number nine. Although Depay is traditionally a winger, Koeman used him as a number nine in the Netherland football team.
Thus after the failed transfer, Barca were left without a proper striker and Lionel Messi had to play in a false nine position, which did not work out too well. Now, however, there is a chance for the 26-year-old to be linked with the Catalans again as Lyon has agreed to let him go for a very low price.
The winger’s contract is ending at the end of the season thus the French club is willing to sell him as they do not want to lose him for free. The new price tag according to Mundo Deportivo, is only 5 million euros, which Barcelona surely can afford, however, they have a new problem.
French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, also want to bid for the player and it will be tough to outbid such a financial powerhouse. We must wait and see what happens in January as Barcelona also have their elections upcoming and they might miss out on the player, trying to fix their internal issues.
