Ronald Koeman is desperate about making new signings for Barcelona.

When Ronald Koeman was first appointed as head coach of Barcelona, he gave a list of players that he thought were essential for his team. The list included the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Memphis Depay, Gini Wijnaldum, and Sergino Dest. Out of these four, the dutch manager could only secure one as the rest were too expensive for the club given their financial status. Now as January approaches, Koeman has another chance of bringing in a few players of his choice.

More from Everything Barca

Barca are in quite a mess, both on the pitch and on paper. They have a lot of players such as Gerard Pique, Ansu Fati, and Philippe Coutinho who are out due to long term injuries. This is hampering their squad depth and their financial crisis means that they cannot even bring in new players right away.

Koeman is hoping for a new striker as he recognized that Blaugrana is lacking in that area. Till last season the Catalans had one of the most vicious strikers in Europe, Luis Suarez. However, Koeman decided that Suarez’s services were no longer required at the club and thus let him go to Atletico Madrid. Now they are without a talented finisher and that is evident as they are having trouble finishing off games.

The Dutch manager, in a pre-match interview, held on Friday said that he acknowledges the fact that the club is low on money but he also requires some new faces. He is ready to stick with what he has provided that the club brings in a few new players after the season. He said in the interview,

"“It is important for our short-term future. We want to improve the squad. I still think some positions need more competition and effectiveness, But I understand the situation of the club. If it is not possible, it is not possible, and we will wait for the next window.”Source Goal"

The manager then talked about the youngsters at their club. He admitted that a lot of them will not get much playing time with Barcelona and should thus look for a way out in form of a loan.

"“We have told the players that I think it is better for them to find a way out so they have minutes, predominantly [these suggestions have come from] Ramon Planes [club technical secretary] because I am more focused on the games,”"

Barca should not worry about transfers at the moment though, as they will have a lot of free agents to choose from after the season ends. Eric Garcia is as good as theirs and he will arrive from Manchester City for free. Depay is also leaving Lyon at the end of the season for free and Gini Wijnaldum has also decided not to extend his contract with Liverpool. Koeman could gather all of them and create a much stronger team next season.
