Erling Haaland to Barcelona at first seemed like just a publicity stunt used by Joan Laporta to gain more traction towards his presidency campaign.

No one expected Lapota to actually try and make the dream into a reality however, defying all logical explanations, Barca have been thrusted into the race for Haaland.
According to several reports, the Catalan club’s president met up with the Borussia Dortmund player, his father as well as his agent, Mina Raiola, on Thursday, last week.
The meeting went relatively successfully and Laporta was happy with the results of the negotiation. Now the results of the said negotiations have been leaked by a reporter, Reshad Rahman on Twitter. Here are the five demands set by Haaland and Raiola.
#1 Mino Raiola wants a good profit from the sale
Raiola is one of the world’s only superagents and he manages players like Haaland, Paul Pogba, Matthijs de Ligt, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Needless to say, he makes quite a bit of profit from the players moving from one club to the other. During the record-breaking transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United, he made around 27 million euros in profit. The agent is now looking for at least 20 million euros for himself in the new Haaland deal and that complicates things for Barcelona as they do not even have enough to pay for Haaland’s transfer at the moment and they will have to pay for everything from the Goldman Sachs loan.
#2 A substantial amount for Haaland’s father
The Catalans will not only have to pay extra to Mino Raiola, but they will have to pay a similar figure to Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland, as well. The former Leeds United player accompanied his son to the Catalan capital and according to reports, Haaland is demanding that his father be paid 20 million euros as side compensation. It is not unusual for footballing clubs to pay a good figure to the player’s family but 20 million is quite a high figure and they must check in with their accountants to see if they can afford to pay the side fee right now. It would be better for the club to pay the fee in installments over a few years.
#3 Wages that makes Erling Haaland one of the highest earners
Haaland is currently one of Europe’s biggest sensations and he has been considered one of the top strikers in all of Europe. His stats back that up as well and he has scored 42 goals all season, making him the fourth top scorer in the top five leagues behind only Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.
He is a proven goalscorer and has shown his ability to play against the top sides. Thus, he deserves a wage similar to the top players in the world and he is demanding a net wage of 30 million euros per annum which is approximately 625,000 euros per week. This is a huge fee that the Catalans must pay him if he is to sign with them next season. Barcelona aren’t the only club interested in the player so he will just move to another club with Laporta is unable to agree to the huge amount.
#4 Lionel Messi must stay on at Barcelona
Lastly, the most important demand made by Raiola and Haaland is the continuity of the club captain. Lionel Messi almost left the club at the end of the previous season and now has only 3 months left on his contract. Laporta is negotiating with the Argentine in hopes of keeping him with the club beyond this season.
However, nothing is confirmed at the moment and Haaland is unwilling to join unless Messi stays with the Catalan kings. Messi has made his own list of demands and the president must fulfill them as well in order to keep him. There is a lot of confusion at the club at the moment and it will take some time for Barca to figure out the situation. However, with Laporta at the helm of the club, captaining the ship, fans can rest a bit easy.
If these reports are true, should Barca continue their chase for Erling Haaland?
