Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United in the 16/17 season for a whopping 89 million euros transfer fee, however, the French superstar failed to live up to his potential. With his future now uncertain, Pogba’s brother has stated that he is hoping for the player to sign for Barcelona in the summer. It would be a fantastic move for both parties as the midfielder would fit in perfectly in the Spanish side, however, the current Catalan side has plenty of talented midfielders.

"“I don’t know anything but I’m with you, I would sign tomorrow if that was the question. Hopefully, he will sign for Barca.” Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias Pogba told El Chiringuito when asked about Barca’s interest in the Manchester United midfielder."

The midfielder had high expectations at Old Trafford after his stint at Juventus. However, multiple injuries and off-form performances led to a very mediocre tenure for the midfielder in the premier league. He was supposed to perform on the level of Kevin De Bruyne but he did not deliver. Manchester United now have Bruno Fernandes who’s had a very bright start and this only hinders Pogba’s future at Old Trafford.

More from Everything Barca

Paul Pogba is a great ball carrier and a very good ball progressor. The La Liga will be perfect for his style of play. Barca’s slow and possession-based build-up will give Pogba the opportunity to thrive and show his talent. While the Catalans have historically been very much interesting in signing the expensive midfielder, their lack of funds has made it almost impossible.

Mathias Pogba has now reignited the link stating that he is waiting for his brother to win the UEFA Europa League with Manchester United this season and hopes that the Frenchman joins Barca in the summer.

The French international has been brilliant for his national team. He led the team to the FIFA World Cup in 2018 but as for club performances, he has not matched the hype that was created. Real Madrid were heavy favorites to land the midfielder last summer and in the January transfer window. However, after Mathias’ interview with El Chiringuito, Barcelona are equally in the race for the Frenchman.

While the Blaugranas have a full-packed midfield, they lack mature and established international footballers in order to make large statements in Europe and if they are looking to win the La Liga next season perhaps signing Pogba or soon-to-be free-agent Gini Wijnaldum could be a smart move.
